Good Visual Redundancy

Eager Eye’s Robert Kosara has written a critique of the information graphic below, in response to Moritz Stefaner unsatisfied tweet;

I concur with Kosara’ statement on the visualization’s good use of visual redundancy in the subtle 3d height and color of tiles. (Though some textual keys and explanations would have benefited the graphic.)

UPDATE:

Moritz Stefaner has responded with good points on the scale ramp and misuse of fully saturated color as a scale. Also the non-preferable nature of tiles for this data. He concludes his points with a rough sketch (below).
